Current Events #2

Heading: From the Washer to the Sea: Plastic Pollution
http://green.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/10/19/from-the-washer-to-the-sea-plastic-pollution/?scp=3&sq=pollution&st=cse

Summary of Article: This article is about Plastic Pollution.Plastic Pollution is spread through the waste water from the washing machines not bcause of water building and garbage in the oceans. This article explains how the water in the oceans is really polluted and how it affects the enviornment and how it kills many animals in the sea. Through Scientist curiosity they really wanted to know what is the cause of poulltion in the bodies of wate. They started to observe, reasearch, and experiment untill they concluded that left over washing machine water is what is causing pollution.

Suggestion for Improvement/Solving: What we can do to solve this issue is to recycle the washing machine that is being wasted and put in the ocean.I also think that people should stop using alot of water and electricity because it takes alot of power and I think that when throwing the water into sea, and oceans they should filter the water so it wont affect the animals in the water and it wont affect the enviornment.

Current Events Homework (Ms.Tomlin)

Title of Current Events: 10 Years of War: Missiles and Horses
Source of Current Event :http://security.blogs.cnn.com/2011/10/03/war-in-afghanistan-started-with-cruise-missiles-stealth-bombers-and-horses/
Who : Mark Biello
What; He talks about how the U.S has been war with Afghanistan for 10 years
Where: Afghanistan
When : October 3,2011 until now
Why : Afghanistan threw bombs in America which started the war and Afghanistan created the big impact which U.S lost many lives in 9/11.
Summary - This Article/ Interview is mostly about the 10 year war that has been between Afghanistan and the U.s It talks about how Mark Biello who was one of the people that was fighting in the war . He just leads us into his footsteps and conclusion on how and what the war led to and how it impacted on today's society.Mark Biello talk about many things such as how the war started because of the bombs that were thrown to America & how the whole corruption led to 9/11 attack. He guides us to his life during war with Afghanistan.

Reflection -The significance of this event was as Rumsfeld said, was "to make clear to the Taliban leaders and their supporters that harboring terrorists is unacceptable and carries a price." Basically This was a warning or a lesson learned from Afghanistan people that terrorism is not good and who ever tries to do it will suffer pain and will be punished. This impact is nationally because it is world wide for any terrorist to come and destroy anything that is not meant to be destroyed. This event reacted to others because it scared many people through the suffer that Afghanistan people faced. This actually gave respect to U.S because they did what they said they will do.

Enlightenment Thinker - Beccaria is an Enlightenment Thinker that will connect to my article . I say that because Beccaria talks about criminals so I can connect criminals with terrorism because technically terrorism is committing a crime or even bigger which makes you a criminal. The only difference in my connection with Beccaria is that Beccaria felt that the criminals shouldn't be punished however, in my article the U.S felt that the Afghanistan people should be punished for what they do and commit. The U.S decision on how people should be punished for what they do connect with monarchy as well because the U.S role in this article is also taken as kings and queens because they are making the people suffer. However, the Afghanistan people are taken as peasants in this article.
